Depending on the thickness of yarn and gauge of stitches,
one can use their finger in lieu of a hook.
Here I am, in my car last night, hooking with my finger.
Fortunately my "U" hook is a bit bigger than my finger--
so I didn't mess my gauge too much by doing a few rows with my
finger.
