This was made with NZ merino in scarlet (perhaps the flourescent lighting is making it seem more "coral" colored). Worked in half doubles with a P hook. Slipstitched the sides closed (crochet, not sew), and then run through a hot wash and a hot dryer, to "full" it. I probably would have gotten a good "felt" effect if I did it in single crochets, and not half doubles, but it would have taken me twice the amount of time to finish it.I've seen similar things online... not sure if Noni is where I saw it.
