Labor Day 2010: Photo Dump 1

Of course, I packed in a hurry, and neglected
to pack a travel project!
Luckily I memorized where Mystic River Yarns is,
and I made a purchase of some Rowan wool/cotton
and a square handled crochet hook by Kollage!

Surprise surprise. Yet another entrelac bag!

I'm now working the remainder of the yarn
into a "round the world" entrelac, square
panel. Let's see how big it gets!
The colors lend themselves well
for a possible baby blanket.
Who knows what it ultimately
wants to be!

Labor Day 2010: Things The Inspired Me

We were in Mystic CT this weekend, and unbeknownst to me, every Labor Day weekend, at Olde Mystick Village, there is a "Meet the Artisans" art fair! Here are a few photos I took this weekend!

This painting (I forget who the artist is--possibly Smadar Livne?), reminds me of
Barcelona, and makes me wish I were there right now.
Love the colors and movement.
Artisanal tilework, reminiscent of entrelac.

Vintage crocheted tablecloth found at the display
booth for Silhouettes.

Crochet metal work w/copper wire.

Photodump: 5/17/10 Venice

The only thing remotely fibery I could see while in Venice. Sadly, as a result of injuring the ACL of what is now known as "my former, remaining GOOD knee," I didn't see much in the 24 hours we were in Venice this past Spring. However, in the lobby of the Duodo Palace Hotel, they had this display:

Perhaps next time I visit (whenever that MAY be), I can take a jaunt to Burano to see the Venetian lace makers at work, or check out the lace museum.

Tinkerin' w/Some Lace Motifs

This one was snapped last night at knit-night.
I'm not sure I like how the humps of the hearts are turning out,
and may end up frogging it back to where
the crochet hook is in the picture.
Please tell me you can see the hearts!
ETA: 12/28/10 Frogged & abandoned!

Okay. Imagine my surprise when I got to Paris last month,
and the new jeans I bought for the trip and took to the
tailor to get fitted properly, apparently...
WAS NOT FITTED.
The costs of tailoring far outweighed the
actual cost of the jeans.
And as fate would have it, I was without a belt.
The fate of a heavy set woman finding
anything, much less a belt, in Paris THAT FITS
is "difficult." So, I set about hooking up a
simple strip of SOMETHING
to tie around my waist to hold my jeans up...
anything, even a length of yarn is better
than what I was doing, which is to say...
LITERALLY HOLDING MY JEANS UP
WITH MY HANDS.
Oh yes, I seethed the entire 12 days of
my vacation, as my jeans were
intended to be worn a LOT.
Here's the husband modeling the aforementioned
*ahem* "belt."
ETA: 12/28/10 I am now on track for WLS in January 2011.
I am going to be wearing the FUCK out of these
jeans, and they officially are the last pair
of "fat jeans" I will have purchased.
