Oya Inspiration Piece

I wish I knew how to do this, tho I can figure out some
of the elements, I'm not sure of how to start
the edging.

When I'm feeling a bit better (still
suffering the after-effects of my
bout w/pneumonia), I'd like
to try my hand at reverse engineering
this, unless, of course,
CouchCrochetCrumbs puts up a
tutorial or a chart. :)

Inspiration Piece: Oya

Posting this pic as a reminder for myself, and to be used as an inspiration piece
for a very special piece of wedding "jewelery" for a friend.

The picture is one variation of Oya, Turkish Lace, which my friend Rengin creates. Please take a moment and visit her online shop or her blog. What she is able to create is, in my opinion, utterly beautiful, and I aspire, one day, to be able to re-create what she does!

More Motifs

Here is my first attempt at an Oya styled rose motif,
done freehand, no pattern.
This is the second prototype.
The third prototype I believe will be the clincher for this motif.

The same motif as worked yesterday; however
this is done in #10 crochet thread.
Will finish six more motifs to finish it as a bookmark.

Inspiration Pieces: For Future Projects

Clever use of Granny Squares (another thing to which I'm addicted!)
I found this at Tattis Cuties Flickr group.

Example of Yemeni Oya/Oyalari (LOVE this motif!)
I found this (and more) at Lilac.

I might attempt playing around with this motif on my own.
The flowers are definitely hooked; however, the leaves
appear to be shuttled.
Let's see how it goes.

Oya: The Search Continues

I don't know why it did not occur to me to check YouTube first... but there are some videos that include or spotlight Oya or Oyalari lace on YouTube; however, they are in TURKISH!

Needless to say, I messaged the person who uploaded those videos, and left a message to see if possible for them to subtitle the Oya videos, and also asked whether they were able to assist in finding pattern or how-to books on the topic.

And as a result of my search today, I found a blog (again, in TURKISH) of a crafter, and she's got some Oya on her site. I've left her a comment, and I am hopeful she reads English! :)

So much so, I set forth my mad-Googling skillz to dig up what I could on what it IS [Oya], and perhaps any English books I could use as sources on how to learn and eventually master this craft!

I find it fascinating how different motifs have different meanings, much in the way Victorians used flowers to convey "hidden meanings" in boquets.

Turns out this craft was traditionally used as a means of dowry. Fascinating.

Looking at this rose necklace to the left, I can easily see this being worked as a lacework edging on many items, including a wedding veil.
